Hooray for the season of LOVE! Leading up to Valentine’s Day, we’re celebrating all kinds of love while spotlighting LANE EIGHT Sole Mates – the stories of love, friendship, and family behind our brand.
To start things off, we snapped LANE EIGHT co-founder Josh, and his partner, Nina. This beautiful duo have been going strong for nearly two years now and recently started cohabiting together with LANE EIGHT mascot Dori the Jack Russel. Head down below to learn more about how these Sole Mates met, what they’re planning for their second Valentine’s Day in COVID lockdown, and how they spend their days off together.
“We connected in a very effortless way and I felt comfortable with him from the get go — it’s something you rarely experience when you first meet someone.”Nina
For those who don’t know, please tell everybody who you are and what you do.
Nina: I’m Nina Milhaud. I work as an editor at a design magazine in Hong Kong.
Josh: I’m Josh Shorrock. I’m a co-founder of LANE EIGHT.
How did you guys meet? What attracted you to each other?
Nina: I interviewed him and his brother for an article about LANE EIGHT. I liked his grounded and honest yet super casual nature, he wasn’t trying to show off or be someone else. We connected in a very effortless way and I felt comfortable with him from the get-go — it’s something you rarely experience when you first meet someone.
Josh: What initially attracted me to Nina was how easy it was to talk to her about anything. It was quickly clear that we both had a similar outlook on things, I think in part because of the parallels in our backgrounds.
What are you guys doing for Valentine’s Day this year?
Nina and Josh: Probably just a nice dinner at home.
“We like to do spontaneous days out together… whatever we do, it’s usually something fun and active that’s always topped up with a feast of some sort.”Josh & Nina
What are some of your favourite things to do together?
Nina and Josh: We like to do spontaneous days out together, whether it’s hiking, strolling around the city or exploring Hong Kong’s many islands and beaches – whatever we do it’s usually something fun and active that’s always topped up with a feast of some sort. Lately we’ve also been loving hosting dinners with our friends and family on our new rooftop.
What is the biggest strength of your relationship?
Nina: I think we share the same values and are looking for the same things in life. Our personalities are different in many ways but we get each other. We also always try to communicate better and learn in our relationship, which I think is key.
Josh: I think we’re both very open with each other. We’re both easy going, but at the same time are comfortable having difficult conversations when we need to and then continue to move forward.
