With our #YourBestYou series, we’re sharing some of our favorite stories of perseverance, hope, and aspiration from the LANE EIGHT community of Everyday Athletes! For our latest edition, we have a double feature with power couple Kayla and Elaine. Entrepreneurs, creatives, and #EverydayAthletes, it’s all in a day’s work for these two. We caught up with the duo to discuss their biggest fears, best motivations, and (most importantly) their favorite LANE EIGHT colors!

What does “Your Best You” mean to you?
Kayla: It means to be my most authentic self, working hard and still finding time for my loved ones.
Elaine: It means to constantly striving to grow as an individual, to be better for others and to never stop learning.
When do you feel most authentically yourself?
Kayla: When I get to do what I love, like work on my brand Basics for Basics.
Elaine: I think I’m pretty good at usually being my authentic self, but of course, when I know I’m in an environment where I feel safe and without judgement, that also surely helps.
Favorite way to express your individuality?
Kayla: Through fashion.
Elaine: Probably by being silly, through creativity and humor.
What does Pride mean to you?
Kayla: It means to live your most authentic self and to be proud of exactly who you are.
Elaine: When I hear the word “Pride” I associate it with a celebration: a celebration of differences, a celebration of life, a celebration of togetherness and humanity.
Sweet or savory?
Summer or winter?
Run or Yoga?
Hugs or kisses?
Elaine: Don’t make me choose!
What’s one thing people don’t know about you?
Kayla: That I am afraid of the dark.
What are the three things you can’t live without?
Elaine: The ocean, music, Kayla.
Who inspires you to become Your Best You?
Kayla: The people I love, my fiancee and my family. Without them I wouldn’t be where I am today.
Elaine: I will probably be saying this again in a much more teary way during our wedding vows(!), but without a doubt, Kayla inspires me every single day to become my best me–to be the partner she absolutely deserves in love and life.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Kayla: Be patient with your journey, and take every mistake as a lesson.
Elaine: I don’t know what kind of advice I could give my younger self that I know I would’ve taken! But it would probably be to remember to be patient, it’ll always be worth it to take the time to gain a little perspective.
If you could share one message with the LANE EIGHT community, what would it be?
Kayla: Be proud of who you are and never let anyone ever tell you you’re not good enough.
Elaine: From being health and planet conscious, if you’re shopping at or even considering Lane-Eight, you’re already ahead of the curve! So run on, dance on, stomp on, and enjoy a happy pride month everyone!
