Well its official, 2020 is over! As we get settled into 2021, we’re hopeful that this year marks the beginning of a return to some sort of normal. At LANE EIGHT, we’re starting the year with a heady dose of optimism. Why? Amidst the chaos of 2020, we’ve been inspired by stories of perseverance, honesty, and hope. So to kick things off this year, we’re launching our #YourBestYou campaign. We’ll be sharing some of our favorite stories from our community of Everyday Athletes. From how they dealt with the year that was, to fitness and wellness tips, and aspirations for the year ahead, we’re taking a deep dive into how our community is planning to be #YourBestYou in 2021.
Following up our recent features with LANE EIGHT co-founder James Shorrock and Olympic swimmer Camille Cheng, we’re now turning our attention to Hong Kong Shuttlecock player, coach, and Everyday Athlete Kevin Or. One of Hong Kong’s most promising shuttlecock, Kevin attended the 9th World Shuttlecock Championship where he earned two silvers and a bronze! We recently caught up with him to discuss the challenges of staying fit and motivated during 2020, how he plans to take on 2021, and what #YourBestYou means to him.
Location: Hong Kong
What does “Your Best You” mean to you?
To me, it means setting goals and then working hard to pursue them. That being said, it’s important to enjoy the process, even if the end result is a failure. Failure is just another opportunity to learn and grow!
How did you discover LANE EIGHT?
I discovered LANE EIGHT through Instagram and wanted to try them out.
How have you dealt with what 2020 has thrown at you?
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I wasn’t able to do any formal training and or partake in any competitions during 2020. As a result, I’ve had to get creative with doing all my training at home!
How do you plan on taking on 2021?
Not only am I planning to participate in the 11th World Shuttlecock Championships, I’m planning to achieve a breakthrough result.
Who is someone you look up to that embraces the “Your Best You” lifestyle and why do you look up to them?
Cristiano Ronaldo. He’s shown that with the right training, nutrition, recovery, and mindset that you can continue to be a world-class athlete regardless of age. He’s a great example of being #YourBestYou.
What self-care rituals do you do to feel your best physically and mentally?
Exercise is an important part of my self-care routine. It keeps me feeling good both physically and mentally. Music is another important element of self-care in that it helps me to either to get pumped-up or relaxed depending on what I’m doing.
What’s your number one advice for people who are struggling with their own wellness journey?
Take a look at your nutrition. A healthy, balanced diet can really go a long way not just in terms of your physical health, but also your mental health.
What do you love about LANE EIGHT?
I love the comfort and versatility, and the variety of fun colors.
What do you want to see in LANE EIGHT in the future?
I’d love to see more people training around Hong Kong – wearing LANE EIGHTS, of course.
If you could share one message with the LANE EIGHT community, what would it be?
Good health, good life.
First travel destination post-COVID?
Japan. For sure.
